The Adelphic Literary Society, Inc. (ALS) was founded on March 8, 1881, by a special act of the Assembly of the State of Connecticut. Upon graduation from Wesleyan, members of Alpha Delta Phi Middletown become members of the Adelphic Literary Society. Members of Alpha Delta Phi Middletown who are enrolled in another academic institution also become members of the ALS upon graduation. Members who are not students become members of the ALS three years after their initiation unless they enroll as an undergraduate within those three years.
The ALS came into being in the twenty-fifth year of the Middletown Chapter when there were fewer than 200 living alumni. Today the membership of the ALS numbers over 1,200 siblings.
